The Little Drummer Boy of Rappahannock is a remarkable story that gives us hope when we’re faced with death.
Robert Henry Hendershot was a 12 year old boy drummer boy for the 8th Michigan infantry in the Civil War, 1862 while serving in Fredericksburg, Virginia. A boy with nerve – was first to push off boats loaded with soldiers towards enemy territory. Accidentally, he didn’t let go – and was dragged to the enemy’s battle front.
Landing on the battle front, and faced with new soldier duties – Hendershot found a stranded enemy soldier in a basement. He gave him consolation and amazingly – this 12 year old, brought this enemy soldier to surrender – that saved him from death.
